A man I once knew used to say to me from time to time: “I’m going to find someone like Kristin.” He had more than one wrecked relationship behind him. He never did find someone like Kristin; I know that now. But really, how optimistic can you be, thinking you’ll find someone like her?

“They never leave their wives” was a phrase I thought was widespread out there. Someone once whispered it to me. When I googled it just now, I found almost exclusively references to a Norwegian musical artist and a song she wrote. Quite surprising.

I have always liked the opening line of Love Story from 1970. “What can you say about a 25-year-old girl who died? That she was beautiful and brilliant? That she loved Mozart and Bach? The Beatles? And me?” says Oliver Barrett IV.

Here, one could easily swap out Mozart, Bach, and The Beatles with May and Sagal.

Not even the strongest forces of nature can challenge the force of nature that is Kristin. My beloved Kristin. She has been, and remains, the most important person in my life.

When you have a foundation like that, anything is possible.
