The Hartvedt-Rothbard Convergence

Frank August Hartvedt in the late 1980s or early 1990s

Let me be blunt: This is the closest I have ever come to something supernatural in my entire life.

In early September 2026 I made a discovery that left a considerable impression. I discovered that my father Frank August Hartvedt (Christianity) and Murray N. Rothbard (absolute freedom) died on the same day in 1995 – January 7. When I published The 22 Assertions in the spring of 2026, I noted my father’s date of death in the fourth assertion. In the sixth, I wrote about Rothbard as the most significant intellectual influence in my life. I did not know then about their shared date of death.

The discovery in September is nothing less than extraordinary and utterly incomprehensible. In the spring I defined these two men as the two most important men in my nearly 50-year-long life, among the thousands of people I have met or been influenced by, not to mention the millions of people I have seen in real life or on television/internet. And then I find out that precisely these two men died on the very same day. They did not share a birthday. They died on the very same day.

Let me be blunt: This is the closest I have ever come to something supernatural in my entire life. That is exactly how I look upon it now. No, it is more than that. Really think about it. Read carefully what I am writing. It is simply not possible. That is almost what I think.
